Autism Care & Support

Person-centred support for autistic adults and young people across Derbyshire — building communication, confidence and independence at a pace that feels right.

Understanding autism, one person at a time

Autism is a lifelong developmental difference that shapes how a person communicates, experiences the world, and relates to others. It is often described as a spectrum because every autistic person is unique — with their own strengths, interests and support needs.

At Access Care Solutions we don’t try to change who someone is. We work alongside each person to reduce the barriers they face, build on what they’re brilliant at, and help them live the life they choose.

The support we provide

Communication support

Helping people understand verbal and non-verbal cues and express their needs in the way that works for them.

Social confidence

Encouraging participation in activities and conversations to build friendships and community connections.

Routine & change

Predictable routines, visual supports and gentle preparation for change — keeping the world feeling safe.

Sensory awareness

Recognising sensory needs and adapting environments so people feel calm, regulated and in control.

Difficulties with social interaction

Many autistic people find day-to-day social interaction challenging — comprehending others’ actions, establishing new relationships and reading non-verbal cues can all take extra energy.

Our support workers help individuals understand both verbal and non-verbal communication, and encourage participation in discussions so people can learn to read responses and navigate social situations with growing confidence.

Do your staff have specific autism training?
Yes. All support workers complete autism awareness training, and staff supporting people with more complex needs receive additional training in PBS, sensory processing and total communication approaches.
Absolutely. Many of the people we support have co-occurring learning disabilities, and our plans are always built around the whole person rather than a diagnosis.
We think carefully about personality, interests, communication style and gender preference. Wherever possible we introduce staff gradually so trust can build before support begins.
Yes — with the person’s consent, we welcome and encourage family involvement, from planning meetings through to day-to-day communication.
